Asian Culture Station ขอเชิญทุกท่านเข้าร่วมการเสวนาของ เรย์มอน พัฒนวีรางกูล ผู้ควบคุมการผลิตภาพยนตร์และผู้อำนวยการ Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC) เราอาจเคยเห็นการทำงานของผู้กำกับ นักแสดง หรือตากล้องในการสร้างหนังขึ้นมา แต่ใครบ้างจะนึกถึงตำแหน่งสำคัญอีกคนหนึ่งที่ปรากฏตัวเป็นเพียงชื่ออยู่ในเครดิตท้ายเรื่อง ตำแหน่งนี้ต้องอยู่กับหนังตั้งแต่เริ่มต้นจนสิ้นสุดการถ่ายทำและยังต้องอยู่กับหนังไปจนตราบฟิล์มสิ้นสลาย
เรย์มอน จะมาถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวการทำงานในตำแหน่ง ‘ผู้ควบคุมการผลิตภาพยนตร์’ ของเขา ซึ่งเกี่ยวพันอย่างยิ่งกับโครงการสร้างหนังร่วมทุนระหว่างประเทศที่ต้องการผลักดันให้เรื่องเล่าแบบเอเชียมีความเข้มแข็งยิ่งขึ้น และเป็นที่ยอมรับในตลาดที่กว้างขึ้น เขาได้อำนวยการสร้างหนังร่วมทุนระหว่างประเทศมาแล้วหลายเรื่อง อย่างเช่น ‘เพชฌฆาตร้องไห้เป็น (Apprentice)’ ของ Boo Junfeng และ ‘ไม่มีสมุยสำหรับเธอ (Samui Song)’ กับ ‘ฝนตกขึ้นฟ้า (Headshot)’ ของ เป็นเอก รัตนเรือง เป็นต้น
แรกเริ่มเดิมทีนั้นเขาเข้ามาข้องเกี่ยวกับอุตสาหกรรมภาพยนตร์ในฐานะผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการตลาดและโครงการพิเศษของตัวแทนจำหน่ายภาพยนตร์ Fortissimo Films ในฮ่องกงและอัมสเตอร์ดัม บริษัทนี้ช่วยขายหนังเอเชียและหนังอาร์ตให้กับผู้เผยแพร่ภาพยนตร์ทั่วโลก จากนั้นเขาจึงได้ไปทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้วางโปรแกรมหนังนานาชาติให้กับ Toronto International Film Festival และที่ปรึกษาการวางโปรแกรมหนังให้กับ Hong Kong International Film Festival กับ Cannes Critics’ Week ปัจจุบันเขายังได้เป็นผู้วางโปรแกรมหนังให้กับ Bogota International Film Festival และเป็นผู้ประสานงาน โครงการ Thai Pitch ในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์ที่เมืองคานส์ด้วย

เรย์มอน พัฒนวีรางกูล ผู้อำนวยการ Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC) ค่ายฝึกเขียนบทหนังแบบเร่งรัดภายใน 9 เดือน สำหรับนักทำหนังเอเชียอาคเนย์ เขาทำการควบคุมการผลิตภาพยนตร์ ให้กับหนังร่วมทุนระหว่างประเทศมาแล้วหลายเรื่อง อาทิ ‘เพชฌฆาตร้องไห้เป็น (Apprentice)’ ของ Boo Junfeng (Cannes Un Certain Regard 2016) และ ‘ไม่มีสมุยสำหรับเธอ (Samui Song)’ (หนังเปิดเทศกาล Venice Days 2017) กับ ‘ฝนตกขึ้นฟ้า (Headshot)’ (Berlin Panorama 2011) ของ เป็นเอก รัตนเรือง เป็นต้น เขาเคยทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้วางโปรแกรมหนังนานาชาติให้กับ Toronto International Film Festival และที่ปรึกษาการวางโปรแกรมหนังให้กับ Hong Kong International Film Festival กับ Cannes Critics’ Week ด้วยเขาเคยเป็นผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการตลาดและโครงการพิเศษ (ฝ่ายจัดหา) ของตัวแทนจำหน่ายภาพยนตร์ Fortissimo Films มาก่อน นอกจากนี้เขายังรับหน้าที่เป็นกรรมการพิจารณาการให้ทุนภาพยนตร์ใน Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) และที่ปรึกษาของ Asian Film Awards (AFA) อีกทั้งยังเป็นกรรมการตัดสินรางวัลในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติอย่าง Berlinale, Sarajevo, Vladivostok, Seattle, Antalya และอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย

Mini Talk#12【 Expanding Asian Cinema Across Territories 】

Asian Culture Station is pleased to invite you to a talk by film producer and Executive Director of Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC), Raymond Phathanavirangoon. As an outsider, we may have seen how film directors, actors/actresses or cinematographers work. However, there is one important role that appears in credits at the end of the film. This role stays with the film from the beginning to the end and continues to be with the film as long as it exists.
In this talk, Raymond Phathanavirangoon will share his perspective on his role as a film producer, especially for international co-production film projects that push the possibility for Asian stories to be improved, get sold and have a wider market. He has produced international co-productions such as Boo Junfeng’s APPRENTICE and Pen-Ek Ratanaruang’s SAMUI SONG and HEADSHOT, among many others.
He started his professional relationship in the film industry at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2003. His next role was as the Director of Marketing & Special Projects for sales agent Fortissimo Films in Hong Kong and Amsterdam, a company which helped sell Asian and art-house cinema to distributors worldwide. He then served as an international programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival as well as the Asian delegate for Cannes Critics’ Week. Currently, he also acts as a programmer at Bogota International Film Festival and coordinator for Thai Pitch at Cannes.

About speakers
Raymond PHATHANAVIRANGOON is the Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC), a 9-month intensive script lab for Southeast Asian filmmakers. In addition, he produces international co-productions such as Boo Junfeng’s APPRENTICE (Cannes Un Certain Regard 2016) and Pen-Ek Ratanaruang’s SAMUI SONG (Opening Film, Venice Days 2017) and HEADSHOT (Berlin Panorama 2011), among many others. He also previously served as an international programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival and the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival as well as Programme Consultant for the Hong Kong International Film Festival and Cannes Critics’ Week. Prior to that, he was the Director of Marketing & Special Projects (Acquisitions) for international sales agent Fortissimo Films. He acted as a Reading Committee Member for the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) and was an advisory member of the Asian Film Awards (AFA). He was a jury member at festivals such as Berlinale, Sarajevo, Vladivostok, Seattle, Antalya, and others.
