Asian Culture Station ขอเชิญทุกท่านชมนิทรรศการ “The Buddhist Archive of Photography in Luang Prabang” จากโครงการ The Buddhist Archive of Photography

The Buddhist Archive of Photography ตั้งอยู่ ณ ศาลาธรรมวิหาร วัดสุวรรณคีรี หลวงพระบาง เป็นสถานที่เพียงแห่งเดียวในลาวที่ได้เก็บรวบรวมภาพถ่ายและฟิล์มกว่า 35,000 ชิ้น จากวัดและผู้คนในหลวงพระบาง โดยเป็นภาพที่ถูกถ่ายตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2420 จนถึงปัจจุบัน ส่วนใหญ่เป็นภาพถ่ายบุคคลและวิถีชีวิตของพระสงฆ์ พิธีกรรมทางศาสนา เหตุการณ์บ้านเมือง การจาริกแสวงบุญ ท่องเที่ยว รวมไปถึงภาพถ่ายส่วนตัวอื่นๆ ฯลฯ ในช่วงศตวรรษที่ผ่านมา

นิทรรศการครั้งนี้ได้คัดเลือกภาพสำคัญ 13 ภาพมาแสดง ประกอบไปด้วยภาพบุคคลสำคัญ กิจกรรมทางพุทธศาสนา และ ภาพการทำงานของ The Buddhist Archive of Photography โดยในแต่ละภาพมีคำบรรยายภาพอย่างละเอียดกำกับด้วย ผู้สนใจสามารถเข้าชมได้ ในเวลาทำการของ Asian Culture Station จนถึงวันที่ 24  มีนาคมนี้

เกี่ยวกับ The Buddhist Archive of Photography

ก่อตั้งเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2548 ในเมืองหลวงพระบางซึ่งอยู่ทางตอนเหนือของลาว เป็นที่เก็บรวบรวมภาพถ่ายและฟิล์มกว่า 35,000 ชิ้น ซึ่งเก็บสะสมโดยพระมามากกว่า 120 ปี สถานที่นี้จัดเตรียมข้อมูลอยางสั้นๆของภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้ ทั้งงานวิจับที่กำลังทำงานอยู่และในอดีต อีกทั้งยังเชื่อมโยงกับหอสมุดอังกฤษ (the British Library), หอสมุดแห่งชาติลาว และ โครงการมรดกทางพุทธศาสนา (the Buddhist Heritage Project) ซึ่งเป็นพันธมิตรในการทำงานวิจับมาอย่างยาวนาน

Asian Culture Station (ACS) คือสถานีแวะพบที่มีไว้ให้ทุกคนมาร่วมกันสร้างความสัมพันธ์ที่ยั่งยืนและส่งเสริมความเข้าใจอันดีระหว่างประเทศไทยกับนานาชาติในเอเชียซึ่งรวมถึงประเทศญี่ปุ่น โดยมุ่งเน้นไปในทางศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม ACS ให้บริการสถานที่สำหรับการร่วมมือกันทำงาน จัดกิจกรรมทั้งในและนอกสถานีเพื่อเพิ่มความสนใจต่องานสร้างสรรค์ของศิลปิน และให้ข้อมูลด้วยเอกสารสิ่งพิมพ์ต่างๆ กับวัตถุชั้นต้นเพื่อการศึกษาค้นคว้าเรื่องราวในภูมิภาค ACS ร่วมดำเนินการโดย เจแปนฟาวน์เดชั่น เอเชียเซ็นเตอร์ องค์กรส่งเสริมการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรมในระดับนานาชาติของญี่ปุ่น กับ CAC – Chiang Mai Art Conversation กลุ่มคนทำงานทางศิลปะ ที่จะมาร่วมทำสำนักงานในสถานีแห่งนี้ด้วย ACS ที่เชียงใหม่ถือเป็นหนึ่งในสามสถานที่ในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ที่ดำเนินงานภายใต้ความร่วมมือกับเจแปนฟาวน์เดชั่น เอเชียเซ็นเตอร์

Asian Culture Station is pleased to invite you to view an exhibition “The Buddhist Archive of Photography in Luang Prabang” from the Buddhist Archives of Photography project.

The Buddhist Archive of Photography is only one kind of this archive in Laos, located at Sala Thammavihan in Vat Suvannakhili, Luang Prabang. A large corpus of more than 35,000 photographs (prints and negatives) found in the monasteries and private collections in Luang Prabang date from AD 1880s up to our own days. The most photographs appear monk portraits, monastic life and rituals, political and social events, pilgrimages, travels, personalities, and etc., were taken during the last century.

In this exhibition, there are 13 important photographs are selected to show. They consist of important monks’ portraits, Buddhism activities and the making of the Buddhist Archive of Photography. Each photograph provided with a full caption. A visitor can visit the exhibition at Asian Culture Station during open hour until March 24.

The Buddhist Archive of Photography
Founded in 2005 in Luang Prabang in Northern Laos, the archive contains 35.000 historical photographs taken and collected by the Buddhist monks over 120 years. This site provides a brief overview of these photographs, of ongoing and past research, and links to more elaborate sites of the British Library, the National Library of Laos, and the Buddhist Heritage Project, our long term research partners.

Asian Culture Station
Asian Culture Station (ACS) is a gathering depot for citizens to build a sustainable relationship and to enrich mutual understanding between Thailand and other Asian nations including Japan. Focusing on arts and culture, in particular, ACS provides co-working space for collaboration, on & off-site events for people’s appreciation of artistic endeavors, and information through sets of publications and first-hand materials for a further study on the region. ACS is co-operated by the Japan Foundation Asia Center, Japan’s principal organization for cultural exchange, and Chiang Mai Art Conversation, an energetic artist collective whose office is also newly established within the station. Co-organized with the Japan Foundation Asia Center, ACS in Chiang Mai is one of the three venues in Southeast Asia.
